The Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra is a five piece chamber ensemble that revives the repertoire and scoring techniques of the original silent movie orchestras. Compiling scores from libraries of music once belonging to silent movie theater musicians, "the results are often breathtakingly beautiful and always in the strict service of the film on the screen.” (Dave Kehr, The New York Times).

Besides their regular appearance at the San Francisco Silent Film Festival, the Mont Alto Orchestra performs at the Telluride Film Festival, the TCM Classic Films Festival, and the Kansas Silent Film Festival; and has toured across the United States from Films at Lincoln Center in New York to Grauman's Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Boulevard.

Mont Alto was formed in Colorado in 1989, and started scoring films in 1994, making this their 25th anniversary (and the 20th anniversary of scoring silent movies). The Girl in Tails, specially commissioned for the 2014 San Francisco Silent Film Festival, will be their 111th silent film score.
