Bruce Goldstein’s When Silents Got No Respect
Sunday, July 11, 12:00 noon Pacific Time
This free online Amazing Tales from the Archives features Bruce Goldstein who will reprise a presentation he gave at our 2019 festival—When Silents Got No Respect, his examination of how the silent era was parodied and ridiculed with facetious commentary as soon as talkies came in. Both a historian and an entertainer by nature, Goldstein has put together a fascinating collection of clips which he’ll narrate with his amusing and erudite commentary.
Goldstein is director of repertory programming at New York’s Film Forum and the founder of Rialto Pictures which reissues international classics in new 35mm prints and digital restorations. He has written, produced, and directed several remarkable short films about the movies, In the Footsteps of Speedy, Uncovering The Naked City, and Pelham One Two Three: NYC Underground, and is working on turning his brilliant lecture The Fabulous Nicholas Brothers into a feature documentary.
