Island Fisherman
Live musical accompaniment by Guenter Buchwald and Frank Bockius
Jacques de Baroncelli’s silent masterwork is taken from Pierre Loti’s novel about Breton fishermen whose destinies seem set from birth. The locale is Paimpol, on Brittany’s sea-battered northern coast, where the men spend half their lives working boats far from home while the women pray for a return that sometimes never comes. Stars Charles Vanel and Sandra Milovanoff are supported by an authentic cast of Bretons.
