My Son
Live musical accompaniment by Stephen Horne and Amber Lamprecht
In a rare domestic melodrama to come out of the silent-era Soviet film factories, a woman confesses to her husband that he is not the father of their newborn. As tensions rise between them the man must reconcile his feelings with the nature of manhood itself. Eschewing collective heroes, rapid-fire montage, and Constructivist angles we’ve come to expect, My Son instead makes a language—no less intense—out of faces. (49 min.)
