Live musical accompaniment by Stephen Horne and Frank Bockius
Anna May Wong’s first role abroad was written expressly for the twenty-three-year-old by German scribe Kurt Vollmöller and directed by star-maker Richard Eichberg. She’s nothing short of luminous as a stranded Malay waif rescued by a knife-thrower with problems of his own. Renowned for her ability to cry on cue, Wong drew people from all over the Berlin studio to watch her film her scenes.
Live musical accompaniment by Stephen Horne and Frank Bockius

Principally a pianist, STEPHEN HORNE often incorporates flute, accordion, and various other instruments into his performances, sometimes playing them simultaneously. Horne is considered one of the world’s leading silent film accompanists.
Percussionist FRANK BOCKIUS joined Guenter Buchwald’s Silent Movie Music Company more than twenty years ago and has since performed for silent films around the world. Bockius joins Stephen Horne for Song.
