The Devil’s Circus
Live musical accompaniment by the Sascha Jacobsen Ensemble
Benjamin Christensen’s Hollywood debut is about an unrepentant crook whose hardened heart is quickly softened by a naïve newcomer to the big city—yet the corrupt world around them won’t let them be. Rich in small humanist touches and the backstage atmosphere of the Big Top, the Danish director’s promising first film for MGM is ultimately an ode to the redemptive power of love.
