The Song of the Scarlet Flower
Live musical accompaniment by the Guenter Buchwald Ensemble
Based on a prize-winning novel that came out of Finland’s artistic golden age, this adaptation by the Helsinki-born Stiller is a bittersweet love letter to the bucolic homeland the director had to leave behind. A lusty lumberman has one too many romantic idylls among the pine trees and is banished from the family farm. While he proves his manly worth in a thrilling log ride down river rapids, he matures only by facing his flaws.
