Festival 2009

July 10 - 12, 2009 at the Castro Theatre

The Program

SFSFF 2009 saw three days brimming with magical live cinema experiences! Douglas Fairbanks charmed in The Gaucho on opening night, Aelita, Queen of Mars took us out of this world, and Lupe Vélez stunned on closing night in Lady of the Pavements. The 2009 SFSFF Award was presented to the China Film Archive.

The Musicians

SFSFF 2009 was accompanied by a stunning selection of silent film accompanists from all over the United States – Philip Carli, Mark Goldstein, Dennis James, Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, Joanna Seaton and Donald Sosin. They were joined by Stephen Horne, long considered one of the UK’s leading silent film accompanists.
