The 27th San Francisco Silent Film Festival took place April 10–14, 2024 at the historic Palace of Fine Arts. Five days of live cinema programs, twenty-two programs with films from seven countries and eighteen superb musicians from around the world on hand to accompany. Live cinema at its best!

The Program

Twenty sublime titles from the silent era plus five wonderful shorts including the discovery of the decade—Gregory La Cava’s The Pill Pounder featuring Clara Bow! The 2024 SFSFF Award was presented to Hisashi Okajima of the National Film Archive of Japan at the screening of Yasujiro Ozu’s I Was Born, But…

The Musicians

SFSFF 2024 featured a magnificent line up of international artists: Wayne Barker, Frank Bockius, Guenter Buchwald, Stephen Horne, Sascha Jacobsen, Mas Koga, Utsav Lal, Matti Bye Ensemble, Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, and Donald Sosin.

New SFSFF Restorations

SFSFF’s Preservation Department works on film restoration projects year round, premiering the results on 35mm at our annual festival. In 2024 the festival presented three SFSFF restoration projects: Dancing Mothers, The Red Mark, and The Pill Pounder.
