True art transcends time.

Silent Movie Day

On Friday, September 29, starting at 12:01 am Pacific and ending at midnight, SFSFF will celebrate Silent Movie Day by making our restoration of THE SIGNAL TOWER available to screen online. Clarence Brown’s 1924 masterpiece stars Virginia Valli, Rockcliffe Fellowes, and Wallace Beery, and was filmed in California’s breathtakingly beautiful Mendocino County. The 4K restoration was completed in 2019 by SFSFF and Photoplay Productions, and includes dye-tinting by specialists in Prague who replicated the original source colors. This screener includes a score composed by pianist Stephen Horne, performed by Stephen Horne and Martin Pyne.

Festival 2023

The 26th San Francisco Silent Film Festival took place at the Castro Theatre July 12–16 with five days of brilliant live-cinema—silent-era movies with live musical accompaniment!

A feast for lovers of classic film and live music that is as elaborate, ambitious, and masterfully mounted as any I've seen.
